Wholesale Growers to the Trade and Retail Sales to the Public
At Heartwood Nursery, we hear from a growing number of customers who want to make their property part of the native ecosystem and would like project help.
Heartwood Nursery partners with Campisi Property Service LLC on landscaping using native plants indigenous to the Mid-Atlantic region.
Campisi Property Service sources most of its plants from Heartwood, relying on our deep knowledge of plant propagation and local ecotypes, as well as our huge selection of native plants. We’ve provided more than 3,500 healthy, beautiful native plants, as well as garden design, for dozens of Campisi landscaping projects on residential and commercial properties.
Over 35 years ago, Heartwood began business as one of the first nurseries in the region to specialize in native plants. We think Campisi’s commitment to conservation landscaping stands out in an industry currently crowded with practices that can be detrimental to the environment.

Case Story: Lawn to Meadow in a Year
Shared by Shannon Grimm, York, PA
2023: Conventional Grass Yard
In May 2023 we hired Campisi Property Service to remove almost all the grass in our front yard and plant a natural meadow with native plants.
A small border of grass was left along the road and on either side of the yard. Campisi planted seedlings from Heartwood Nursery in front of the house and by the street for aesthetics. They planted native seeds over the rest of the yard.
The first season, following Campisi’s very clear instructions, we watered the front quite a bit. The Heartwood plants grew and bloomed beautifully, and some flowers came up from seed.
2024: A Healthy Meadow for Magical Summer Evenings
This year, we were absolutely blown away by our front meadow. We had flowers throughout the entire yard. We had more visitors―a lot of bunnies, more birds. I loved watching the goldfinches perch on the flowers right outside my window. And so many bees! On summer evenings, we'd sit by the house and watch the lightning bugs come up from the meadow. It was magical.
All this with absolutely minimal work on our part. We ditched our gas-powered mower and bought a manual one to mow the grass areas just a few times in spring and early summer. Every now and then, we pull out some invasive plants that come up, but with just this minimum effort, we have maximum benefit and beauty.
